In the summer of 2002, two women, one black and one white, sat down together for the first time. They had never met before, but they were about to embark on a journey that would change their lives forever.

The black woman, Tonya Bolden, was a descendant of slaves. The white woman, Stephanie McHugh, was a descendant of slave owners. Both women had grown up in the South, but their experiences of race had been vastly different.

Tonya had always been aware of her race. She had experienced racism firsthand, and she knew that her ancestors had suffered greatly under slavery. Stephanie, on the other hand, had never thought much about race. She had grown up in a white world, and she had never experienced racism herself.

But when Tonya and Stephanie met, they began to talk about their families and their experiences. They quickly realized that they had more in common than they thought. Both women had strong family values, and they both loved their children. Both women were also searching for a sense of identity and belonging.

As they talked, Tonya and Stephanie began to see each other as sisters. They realized that they were both victims of slavery, even though they had experienced it in different ways. They also realized that they were both survivors, and that they had the power to heal the wounds of the past.

Tonya and Stephanie's story is an extraordinary one. It is a story of love, loss, and redemption. It is a story that will inspire you to think about race in a new way, and to see the humanity in everyone.
