Che My Brother begins with Che's early life in Argentina. Juan Martin Guevara describes his brother as a bright and curious child who was always interested in learning about the world around him. Che was also a passionate athlete, and he excelled in a variety of sports. As a young man, Che became increasingly involved in politics. He was angered by the poverty and inequality he saw around him, and he began to believe that revolution was the only way to create a more just and equitable society.
In 1955, Che met Fidel Castro, and the two men quickly became close friends. Che joined Castro's revolutionary movement, and he played a key role in the Cuban Revolution. Che was a brilliant military strategist, and he helped Castro's forces to victory in the Sierra Maestra mountains. After the revolution, Che served in various government positions, including Minister of Industry and President of the National Bank of Cuba. He also played a leading role in the Cuban Missile Crisis, and he helped to negotiate a peaceful resolution to the crisis.
In 1965, Che left Cuba to join the revolutionary struggle in Bolivia. He believed that the Bolivian people were ready for revolution, and he hoped to help them overthrow their oppressive government. However, Che's Bolivian campaign was ultimately unsuccessful. He was captured and executed by Bolivian soldiers in 1967.
Che Guevara was a complex and controversial figure. He was a brilliant revolutionary, but he was also a ruthless killer. He was a man of great courage and integrity, but he was also capable of great cruelty. Che's legacy is still debated today, but there is no doubt that he was one of the most important figures of the 20th century.
Che My Brother is an intimate and revealing portrait of this legendary figure. Juan Martin Guevara provides a unique glimpse into Che's life and work, and he helps us to understand the motivations and beliefs of this iconic revolutionary.
