David Hinton was born in China to American parents and raised in both cultures. His memoir, An American Boy in China Comes to the USA, chronicles his journey of self-discovery and transformation as he navigates the challenges and rewards of living in two very different worlds.

Hinton's writing is honest and insightful, and he paints a vivid picture of his childhood in China. He describes the challenges of growing up as an outsider, of being both Chinese and American but not fully belonging to either culture. He also writes about the joys of his childhood, of exploring the bustling streets of Beijing and spending time with his extended family.

When Hinton was 16, his family moved to the United States. This was a major turning point in his life, and he had to adjust to a new culture and a new way of life. He writes about the challenges of fitting in at his new school, of making friends, and of finding his place in American society.

Despite the challenges, Hinton eventually found his footing in the United States. He went on to college and graduate school, and he now works as a professor of Chinese literature. He is also a published author and translator, and he has written extensively about his experiences growing up in two cultures.

An American Boy in China Comes to the USA is a moving and inspiring memoir. It is a story of self-discovery and transformation, of finding one's place in the world, and of embracing one's own unique identity.
